Boseong Tea Fields

Updated: May 29, 2022

In mid-April I took a trip with some friends to the Boseong tea fields. Boseong is a little over an hour's bus ride away from Gwangju making it an easy trip. It’s not a very big city and the tea fields are its most popular tourist attraction. I had been wanting to see the tea fields the entire time I’d been in Korea, but was waiting until spring when it’s the prettiest; my co teachers all confirmed this and were excited to hear I was going in April.

We started out around 10 a.m. from Gwangju and arrived at the Boseong bus terminal around 11:30. From there we caught a taxi to the tea fields which cost us 12,000 won ($9.42). After arriving at the fields, we paid the 4,000 won ($3.13) entrance fee and started our tea field adventure.

We walked along a small stream underneath huge trees for a bit until it opened up for our first view of the tea fields. They were amazing! We were all in awe of how vast and beautiful they were. My favorite thing about the fields was how they were terraced on several hills. It was such a surreal sight to see.

We walked up and down the hills for a bit admiring the views. We ended up finding a trail that led to an overlook of the tea fields and we hung out there for a bit. On a clear day, you can see the ocean from the overlook, however, on the day we went the air quality wasn’t good so we weren’t able to see very far.

After walking around for a while we went to a cafe and ate some green tea ice cream. It was delicious and possibly one of my new favorite ice cream flavors:)

Yum!

Then we walked around the rest of the fields and discovered a small bamboo forest. I love bamboo forests so this was an added surprise to the trip. There were some other places on the map like a waterfall and more tea fields, but they were doing construction on the trails so it was blocked off. Since we were getting hungry we decided to get some lunch. We found a restaurant right outside the entrance and ate kimchi and meat dumplings and perilla seed noodle soup. All of it was delicious!

From there we got a taxi back into town where we walked around while waiting for our bus. Although it was a short trip, I’m so glad I went because I’ve never seen anything like that before!

**** I went back here a month later and the tea fields looked even prettier. Here are some pictures from that trip:)
